Monthly Professional Development Meeting:
Everything You Need To Know About IABC Accreditation

Join IABC Triangle to learn all you need to know about how to achieve IABC accreditation. IABC accreditation is the global standard of professional achievement for business communicators, encompassing strategic planning, implementation, measurement and ethics.

Three IABC Triangle members who have successfully navigated the process will share information on accreditation eligibility, how to prepare a portfolio, how to study for the written and oral exams, the time and costs involved and how accreditation has positively impacted their careers. The panelists will be Jane Albright – Public Affairs Officer at NC State’s Industrial Extension Service, Rob Brittain – Franchise Marketing Director at Golden Corral Corporation and Dawn Stuart – Owner of Wordspring Communications, a marketing communications consultancy.

Date: Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Time: 12:00 noon for networking and lunch; program begins at 12:30 p.m.

Location: Golden Corral Corporate Headquarters Training Center, 5151 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC (See directions on our web site.)

Cost: $15 for IABC members, $30 for guests (non-members) and $5 for full-time students.

Save the Date: June 8 Professional Development Meeting
Tackling Tough Conversations

At our June professional development meeting, we’ll explore the topic of how to successfully deal with difficult conversations. Business coach and consultant Kevin Brimhall will use real-life examples and scenarios to teach IABC members how to better tackle tough conversations. If you have an example of a difficult communications-related scenario that you would like to have coaching on, please submit it to Abbie Kiefer at abbie@abbiekiefer.com so it can be incorporated into our June meeting.

IABC Triangle Members to Present at 2010 World Conference

IABC’s World Conference will be held June 6-8 in Toronto. Over 1,400 communication practitioners from 40 countries will attend. IABC World Conference information is available on the main IABC website.

Two members of our chapter will be speaking at the conference. Karen Lee, senior director of internal communications at SAS, and Lisa Arney, internal communications manager at SAS, will talk about how effective internal communication has enabled the company to maintain positive employee morale during today’s tough economic climate. SAS was ranked No. 1 on FORTUNE magazine’s Best Companies to Work For list. We wish Karen and Lisa great success with their presentation!
