IABC Volunteer Opportunities: Membership Committee & Gold Quill Judging

IABC Triangle has two volunteer opportunities for you to consider. The first volunteer opportunity is to serve on the IABC Triangle membership committee. Volunteers are needed to attract and recruit college students from the area to join our chapter and become active volunteers. It does NOT require a big time commitment. If you are interested, please contact Shannon Helm, vice president of membership, at shannonh@nc.rr.com.

The second volunteer opportunity is to serve as a judge and/or coordinator for IABC’s Gold Quill award, a global competition to receive the highest level of professional acknowledgment within business communication. For details about this award, visit the Gold Quill Web site.

Note: This volunteer opportunity does NOT require a long-standing commitment. You can gain valuable experience serving as judge or coordinator by seeing what outstanding companies are doing with their communication programs.

Coordinators will be asked to:

  • Enlist local chapter resources and personal contacts to recruit a sufficient number of qualified first-tier judges for the designated category.
  • Be a first point of contact for entrants and be able to handle inquiries by phone and e-mail in January and February 2010.
  • Receive and log entries, and review them to confirm that instructions have been followed and that all entries meet qualifications.
  • Arrange judging location and times. Prepare judges with supplied information in advance.
  • Answer questions during the judging process and help work through tough decisions.
  • Submit first-tier finalists and disqualifications to IABC.
  • Submit all scores and comments via online judging.

If you are interested in being a coordinator or judge, please e-mail ezricarlebach@lluk.org or Stacey Thornberry, Senior Manager, Recognition Programs, at sthornberry@iabc.com.
