Get Involved with IABC/Triangle
Your membership becomes more valuable when you get involved. There's
no better way to get to know fellow members, enhance your professional
skills, and contribute to the vibrancy of the chapter.
A variety of volunteer opportunities exist within the chapter's Professional
Development Committee, Chapter Operations
Committee Opportunities, Membership Committee,
and Marketing Committee.
Professional Development Committee Opportunities
The professional development committee develops and facilitates dynamic
programs to meet membership needs for career and skills development as
well as networking.
Specific volunteer duties may include the following:
- Brainstorm program topics and speakers
- Write and/or edit a program description and speaker/presenter information
for use in related print and online publicity (will collaborate with
marketing committee in completing this task)
- Serve as on-site liaison with a particular program speaker/presenter
- Send thank-you notes to speakers/presenters
The professional development committee meets face-to-face twice a year
and collaborates via email and teleconferencing at other times. The estimated
time commitment for each committee member is six to eight hours per year.

Chapter Operations Committee Opportunities
The chapter operations committee oversees the logistics of chapter meetings
and other professional development events. This committee works closely
with the professional development committee to plan and execute successful
programs and events.
Specific volunteer duties may include the following:
- Oversee logistical arrangements for a particular chapter meeting or
program, including facility reservations and catering orders
- Provide on-site assistance for chapter meetings, including creating
guest name tags, greeting attendees, managing the registration process,
and overseeing business card drawings
- Oversee follow-up tasks for a particular chapter event, including
managing an online attendee satisfaction survey and compiling responses
Estimated time commitment for each committee member: 2 hours per month

Membership Committee Opportunities
The membership committee promotes the value of IABC membership to members
and prospects.
Specific volunteer duties may include the following:
- Promote networking for members and prospects at chapter meetings by
assisting with program registration and greeting attendees
- Correspond with prospects to provide membership information and promote
the benefits of IABC
- Welcome new members by phone within two weeks of their joining date
- Prepare and send information packets to new chapter members
- Verify membership status by confirming monthly membership reports
from IABC headquarters
- Contact chapter members annually to encourage membership renewal
The membership committee meets approximately four times a year to evaluate
and plan the chapter's recruitment and retention activities. Estimated
time commitment for each committee member: 4 hours per month (on average).

Marketing Committee Opportunities
The marketing committee creates and facilitates successful marketing strategies
for IABC/Triangle. Image and branding of our chapter both internally to
members as well as to the larger Triangle business community are crucial
in maintaining and continually enhancing our chapter offerings.
Specific volunteer duties may include the following:
- Develop communication materials such as postcards or brochures to
support and promote the chapter's professional development opportunities
- Oversee development, production, and inventory of chapter identity
materials, such as letterhead and envelopes
- Format and distribute e-mail notices of chapter news and events to
members and prospects (usually twice each month)
- Send meeting notices to local media and follow up by phone as appropriate
- Maintain consistent communication with chapter's web manager, providing
updates to web site content as needed
The marketing committee meets approximately four times a year to evaluate
and plan marketing opportunities. Estimated time commitment for each committee
