His membership in IABC also assists in his journey of lifelong learning, helping him to continually improve his communication skills. He credits IABC seminars and conferences for helping him generate a standardized approach to public relations and marketing with tools and methodologies that produce results. Menzies recently started Menzies Consulting after a diverse career in television news, newspaper reporting, and federal and nonprofit public relations. His experience in communicating messages to diverse audiences in these roles as well as a stint at a Raleigh public relations agency prepared him for launching his own business. "I started to realize that I enjoyed the work immensely but not the environment," said Menzies about his agency experience. "I resigned, registered as a corporation with the state of North Carolina and struck out on my own. I've never been busier, but I've never been happier professionally." Menzies graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a bachelor's degree in communication with minors in English and writing. He was recently elected vice president of the Apex Arts Council, where he assists with PR, advertising and marketing. He is a member of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the Apex/Cary Peak Performers chapter of Business Networking International (BNI) and the Apex Chamber of Commerce.
